From Salon to Sofa: A Hairstylist's Journey to Self-Care

3 Things I Learned as a Hairstylist on the Sidelines

As a hairstylist, my life revolves around the hustle and bustle of the salon. Being forced to take a step back due to a ruptured Achilles tendon was a drastic change. However, this unexpected pause gave me a unique perspective on my craft and business. Here are three key things I learned:

1. The Power of Connection

When you're constantly on your feet, it's easy to get caught up in the technical aspects of hairstyling. Being sidelined forced me to slow down and truly connect with my clients on a deeper level. Phone calls, texts, and social media interactions became more meaningful as I couldn't physically be there for them. I realized that building strong relationships, not only with my clients but also with family and friends, is just as important as creating amazing hair.

2. The Importance of Self-Care

Hairstylists often prioritize the needs of their clients over their own well-being. My injury was a stark reminder that I need to take care of myself first. During my recovery, I focused on physical therapy, nutrition, and mental health. Getting regular blood work, soaking up sunlight, and incorporating supplements into my routine has been crucial for my overall well-being. This newfound emphasis on self-care has given me a fresh perspective on work-life balance and the importance of prioritizing my own well-being.

3. The Value of a Strong Salon Online Presence

While I couldn't physically be in the salon, I realized the immense value of a strong online presence. Social media became my primary tool for staying connected with clients and potential customers. I learned the importance of consistent posting, engaging content, and building a community online. I've been diving deep into the world of online business and marketing, particularly inspired by Britt Seva and the Thriving Stylist. Their insights have been invaluable in helping me build a stronger online presence.

And guess what? My Achilles tendon is healing beautifully! I'm excited to get back to doing what I love and bringing all these new insights to the salon. Stay tuned for my return!

While recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon has been challenging, it has also been a valuable learning experience. I'm excited to apply these newfound insights as I return to my hairstyling career.
